Wall St. Journal :: Holiday Themed Crime/Mystery Books
I love getting gigs like this one that thematically embrace a lot things I enjoy drawing. The article reviews soon to be released Mystery & Crime novels and non-fiction books that thematically overlap with the holiday season or that may be potentially ideal stocking stuffers . One of the aforementioned books ,Catherine Corman’s “Daylight Noir: Raymond Chandler’s Imagined City” , may be a book that eventually I pick up myself , unless of course it shows up in my stocking ;-)
The color scheme for this piece was inspired by travel posters from the 30's & 40's that promoted tourism to California. Enjoy !

For myself , I did a B&W version to see how it would translate. It's much more evocative of the genre & period , but I think wouldn't necessarily have the same visual impact when printed on newsprint.
