Business Metaphors abound .....
Having an AD give you a predetermined concept to work with can be both a blessing a curse. My thinking is , give the client what they want, and try and make it as fun as possible to do for yourself. Thankfully , not all gigs are like this, but it's a gig nonetheless and it sure beats diggin' ditches ;)

lotus - thanks , it's funny because I don't think I even do it by design any more , but there's no denying it permeates my work.
well, i assume that many of the western artists remained conscious of it for very long (though some did....)
i'll bet some never even knew why they had suddenly started seeing differently, but they had, and it carried into their work....
