TORO Magazine :: Bad Beat City

Been doing some comics again for the newly re-launched TORO Magazine online . Latest installment can be seen here with links on the page to other episodes. The strip is providing me with a great opportunity to experiment with my storytelling and with my drawing style. I've been inking the strip with some new croquil fountain pens from Japan that I'm really liking. Enjoy!

Wow...this looks great too.

I'm feeling that P. Craig Russell sensitive line come through here and there.

Are you doing any regular books?

shane - thanks for stopping by , at present , this is the only comic work I'm doing. Don't know if my style really jives with the Vertigo , Oni , IDW set .

I had no idea that TORO was relaunching.. Will it continue to be a newspaper supplement -type mag? Or, are they going for traditional newsstand sales?

The comic strip turned out rock solid.. Did you paste in a photocopy for the countless bottles behind the bar? It has that kind of feel..

Rich - Toro Magazine will only be online , alas the print edition is extinct. This is it's re-born state ;)

As for the bar panel , that's a manipulated photo inserted with Photoshop. For a lot of the BG's in this comic I'm trying to integrate locations I photograph with the drawn figures. An experiment I'm enjoying.

Hi Dominic, very good work. I like the first panel, the PS experiment really works fine! I've checked the link above, did you use the Tachikawa pen?

man i love it! the pouring liquid!!! loving the shifts of focus too.

lotusgreen - thanks , I always try to approach my storytelling in the same manner a director would his film. There's not been a lot of action so the challenge has been making the 'talking heads' look interesting.

Wish this was part of a complete graphic novel 'cause I'd buy it for sure. More refreshing than the crap that's out there.
