Latest installment of my ongoing comic strip for Toro Magazine online.I rarely show 'process' so I thought I'd give ya a sneak peak into it. I tend to do small roughs , just to get the narrative sorted out , and fairly loose pencils. This leaves me some latitude to take more risks when I get to the inking stage. My illustration work tends to be rather tightly drawn , so I'm quite enjoying doing the looser artwork that this gig affords.

how interesting, dom! you make me realize that i'd always assumed that you did the whole thing in photoshop. so what do you use photoshop for and what is manga studio?
(i remember some very early graphics programs: color studio, and... can't remember the other one but it was black and white, maybe illustration studio)
lotusgreen - I draw everything traditionally with 'analog' tools , like pens & brushes on paper , then bring it into Photoshop to add the type & textures , then Manga Studio is used to add the mechanical dot tones.
This is a real treat to see your process. The final came out great.
Hey Dom, this looks great ...
I really dig your loose style as well ..I like to see you apply this to your illustration work ... it would be interesting to see ...
Yeah I heard about Manga studio ... I wanted to try it for a while now .. just because of the half tone dots ... you like it?
r.dress - thanks man !
tyrone - the hope is that there is some spillover effect with this process on my illo work too. I'm still learning all the permutations of what Manga Studio can do , but what I've figured out , I like .
Hi Dominic, these pages look great to me, I always love your inks. Very good work on expressions also. I tried to do something with Manga studio and found it a bit complex to use, what do you think about this software?
Great Job Dominic!!
roberto - thanks , you're right about Manga Studio being complex to use , it's certainly not as intuitive as the Adobe programs, but I like the results.
Claudio - many thanks.
hey man, thanks for the comments!
Loving the Three Martinis illustration! I really enjoy your blog and congrads on all the clients too!! I'll check in on ya...
continually awesome stuff Dominic.
Great work. Love to see how you put it together and I really admire the look you're getting. Love the half-tone dots trick, it works well here.
Good comic, too! Made my way through the whole thing. Terrific design and storytelling.
sorrentino - glad you could swing by
craig - thanks , you're too kind
jeff - always a pleasure , keep checkn' the plot's really starting to thicken
