Lovely work, I like the intensity, the staging and the graphics.
Roberto - thanks mate
Your light sources are always really believable and I'm really liking the print on her dress. I think it's your details that make your already successful drawings even better.
Love the lobby card look!Vivian Leigh 'model' for this?
alex - thanks man ,the print was from a William Morris textileNoel - yes my astute friend , Vivian Leigh was def the inspiration for the 'Witch'.
Looks reeeeeel nice!at least I guessed a british actress:-)
Draz- thanks man
Great design! That's a winner! Nice touch with the RKO logo too...
Marcelo - thanks for stopping by , it def needed the RKO logo ;-)
Awesome, leave it be.
This thing is so nice. One of these days, I hope you post a "how I do this" piece on your blog. Are these completely digital, or are you starting out in analog media? It's just such a credible evocation of a different time period, plus it's a gorgeously composed illustration. And the fonts are awesome, too!
R.Dress - I did , honest ;-)Nate - thanks for the kind words, as with most of my work it's a hybrid of traditional & digital. Drawings inked with brush & Pen on Strathmore , scanned and colored in Photoshop & occasionally Painter.Assorted scans of textures & papers to make it less 'digital/clean' .Fonts are always a challenge , so many great ones to choose from.
Great job of making it look both modern and retro pulp. Photography blog is pretty cool, too.
Frank - thanks for swinging by , always a pleasure
This is a total winner
Love it! Like the retro color scheme.Makes me wonder what a noir Rapunzel movie would be like. It would be fun to see more in this "movie".Pernaps noir Rapunzel lobby cards that kind of cover other beats of the story.!
too cooltalk about a looming bad hair day!
Thanks everyone.Benton - if only I had the time ;-)
I'd love to see this movie. Music by Miklos Rozsa surely!
Oscar - thanks , and Miklos Rozsa sounds perfect !
Thanks for commenting on my blog, Dominic. A week or two ago, I spent a little time looking back over your work here, back to the beginning of 2006-- we both started about the same time and yours was one of the first blogs I latched onto. It's been a real pleasure to watch you work and to watch your work improve so much; you were really good then and you're blazing now. You're an absolutely solid artist! I always find inspiration here. Almost goes without saying, this one is terrific fun.
Jeff - thank for the generous comments , they mean a lot coming from another pro such as yourself.Cheers, Dom
I really like your style, great quality work!
