My re-imagining of a classic fairy tale , done for an upcoming promotion for my rep. I may still tweak some things here and there , but overall I'm pretty happy with it. Enjoy!
Your light sources are always really believable and I'm really liking the print on her dress. I think it's your details that make your already successful drawings even better.
This thing is so nice. One of these days, I hope you post a "how I do this" piece on your blog. Are these completely digital, or are you starting out in analog media? It's just such a credible evocation of a different time period, plus it's a gorgeously composed illustration. And the fonts are awesome, too!
Nate - thanks for the kind words, as with most of my work it's a hybrid of traditional & digital. Drawings inked with brush & Pen on Strathmore , scanned and colored in Photoshop & occasionally Painter. Assorted scans of textures & papers to make it less 'digital/clean' . Fonts are always a challenge , so many great ones to choose from.
Makes me wonder what a noir Rapunzel movie would be like. It would be fun to see more in this "movie". Pernaps noir Rapunzel lobby cards that kind of cover other beats of the story.!
Thanks for commenting on my blog, Dominic. A week or two ago, I spent a little time looking back over your work here, back to the beginning of 2006-- we both started about the same time and yours was one of the first blogs I latched onto. It's been a real pleasure to watch you work and to watch your work improve so much; you were really good then and you're blazing now. You're an absolutely solid artist! I always find inspiration here. Almost goes without saying, this one is terrific fun.
